The first International Union of Museums on the Silk Road conference was successfully held during the "World Expo"

From November 24 to 25, the first Conference of the International Union of Museums on the Silk Road was held in Fuzhou International Strait Convention and Exhibition Center during the "Expo". Representatives from more than 30 cultural and museum-related institutions from 21 countries gathered together to discuss future cooperation plans and sign exhibition cooperation framework agreements.

Introduction to the International Union of Museums on the Silk Road

Silk road international museum union by the Chinese museum association professional committee of the museum along the "silk road" (69 member units) "silk of the silk road international research alliance member of (28) and the silk road international museum friendly alliance" (54 member units) 3 groups and the Pakistan and Tanzania 2 museum institutions jointly launched. It has a total membership of 157 units, of which 46 are international institutions and 111 are domestic institutions.

Alliance is committed to actively explore the countries along the silk road in the field of cultural heritage in the areas and the theme exhibition, information sharing, joint research, professional personnel exchanges and personnel training, promote along the museum international cooperation between countries and regions, and strengthen the museum related contact and cooperation between international agencies and organizations, and improve the social awareness and participation of cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation, realize the hearts and minds of mutually on the silk road.

Wang Chunfa, president of the Federation and director of the National Museum of China, delivered the opening speech. Wang Chunfa believes that museums have a unique cultural linkage, and the construction and development of the International Federation of Museums shows the sense of a community with a shared future, sharing rights and responsibilities. He proposed that all members of the Alliance should adhere to joint efforts for shared benefits and win-win cooperation to benefit people of countries along the Belt and Road and promote the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.

The National Museum of China, as a member of the chairman of the Alliance, will actively perform its duties and obligations, effectively play its role as a bridge and bond, establish and improve the communication mechanism, and strive to build a cooperation platform to provide good services and guarantee for the Alliance.

Guan Qiang, deputy director general of The National Cultural Heritage Administration of China, first of all expressed his welcome to the delegates and guests and sincere congratulations on the opening of the alliance conference. Guan said that the Silk Road has always been the most important cultural and trade channel between the east and the West in ancient times, but today the Silk Road has long surpassed its meaning as a communication line. In recent years, China has cooperated many times with countries along the Silk Road and international organizations, which reflects the great importance the Chinese government attaches to the protection of silk Road-related heritage and its positive attitude towards taking international responsibility for the protection of cultural heritage. At the time of the first meeting, it is hoped that members of the Alliance will make full use of the platform of the Alliance, continue to deepen cooperation, draw on each other's strengths, make common progress and open up new channels for mutual learning among civilizations along the Silk Road.

Zhu qi, deputy director of the international exchange and cooperation bureau of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, believes that this conference will further enhance the international influence and appeal of the joint "One Belt And One Road" and attract more and more countries along the belt and road to actively participate in it.

Li Chun, vice mayor of Fuzhou, introduced in his speech that Fuzhou was an important starting point of the ancient Maritime Silk Road. He hoped that all the guests present would put forward their insightful views and help Fuzhou promote its cultural and cultural development.

During the conference, 17 institutions from 12 countries signed an exhibition cooperation framework agreement, agreeing to participate in the exhibition series themed "Exchanges and Mutual Learning among Civilizations" initiated by the National Museum of China. The series is scheduled to be held every two years, the first of which will be held in Beijing early next year. At that time, the national museum of China will join 18 national museums along the "One Belt And One Road" to jointly present exchanges and "dialogues" among countries along the silk road in the fields of trade and commerce, dissemination of belief, science and technology, lifestyle, culture and art.

In the closing speech, Chairman wang Chunfa said that delegates to the conference have reached broad consensus on the silk Road spirit of "peace and cooperation, openness and inclusiveness, mutual learning, mutual benefit and win-win results" in the field of museums, which is gratifying.


For the next step of the alliance, Wang Chunfa put forward several suggestions:

We will intensify research cooperation and jointly safeguard the cultural heritage of mankind

We will increase exchanges on the application of new technologies and the construction of smart museums to share experience in innovation and development

We will intensify cultural and creative cooperation to transform the resources of cultural relics

The conference also launched the official website of the International Union of Museums on the Silk Road, founded by the National Museum of China (www.musesilkroad.org), to enhance information exchange and resource sharing among the members. The conference also announced the time and place of the next alliance conference. It is reported that the second alliance conference will be held in November 2020 at the National Museum of China in Beijing.
